1. Humus- the part of soil that is made up of parts of dead plants and animals
2. Sand- soil that have tiny pieces of rock that you can see with your eyes alone.
3. Silt- soils with grains of rock that are too small to see with your eyes.
4. Clay- soils with very, very tiny grains of rock
5. The main difference between sand, silt, and clay soils is their grain size.
6. Loam- a mixture of humus, clay, silt, and sand.
7. The 3 layers of soil:
Topsoil-top layer
Subsoil-middle layer
Bedrock-bottom layer; solid rock
