Have your child write the words and identify the suffixes on the words. They should be able to tell you if the suffix is a vowel or consonant and what some of the rules are. Practice trusting (baseword trust suffix -ing)
shopping (baseword shop suffix -ing) Children should identify that shop is a 1-1-1 rule word. (The word has 1 closed syllable, 1 vowel, and 1 consonant following the vowel. This means the final consonant gets doubled.)
